Music Is Medicine Will Raise Funds For COVID-19 Relief

The goal of the EP is to raise money for The Center of Disaster Philanthropy COVID-19 Response Fund. All proceeds from the sales of the EP will be donated to the cause.

“It’s been such a unique time in all of our lives. I’m just honored to be able to share a bit of music with people, especially during these trying times,” Francois said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday. “What we do as surgeons, what we do as physicians goes a very long way, but music moves people in a way that medicine can’t.”

Recently Francois received a call from two executives from the Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group. They wanted to know how they could help the singing doctor spread his message of hope.

Jake Basden and Allison Jones have now helped Francois record the new EP called Music Is Medicine in a real recording studio.

The four-song EP is called Music Is Medicine. Francois even created his own record label for the EP called Doctor Elvis Records.

Fellow resident William Robinson was able to join Dr. Elvis for the recording sessions of Imagine, Lean On Me, as well as Andra Day’s Rise Up and Mike Yung’s Alright. Robinson usually accompanies Francois on the piano in his popular online performances.

About Singing Dr. Elvis Francois

Francois began singing in high school and church, but he says he never took it seriously because medicine was always on his mind.

He grew up in Miami and New York and said that trips to Haiti, where his family is from, is what helped him find his life goal.

“I just always remember seeing long lines of people and how grateful they were to get Tylenol for free, or how grateful they were being able to just literally speak to a doctor and get their advice,” he recalled. “Since then, maybe when I was like 7 or 8, I’ve always looked at that as being something that I’d want to give the rest of my life to.”

Music Helps This Healthcare Worker Connect To Patients

Dr. Elvis Francois says singing has helped him connect to patients, and now fans from across the globe.

After posting a video online of him singing two years ago, he was contacted by The Ellen Show and sang for America live.

Dr. Elvis said, “That was a big moment that made me realize how music connects us.”

Francois is in his final year of residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
