How ’bout that Tony Romo!
According to reports, the retired Dallas Cowboys quarterback will sign a long-term deal with CBS Sports. This deal will make him the highest-paid NFL analyst in the history of broadcast sports.
Tony Romo earned an average of $9.1 million over his 14 season career with the Dallas Cowboys. He’ll earn nearly double that in one year with CBS after reportedly signing a deal worth $17 million per year. He only earned that three times with the Cowboys.
The deal, which if confirmed, is for a total of more than $100 million.
Romo has received praise for his knack in predicting the plays teams would run. Statistically, he’s better at predicting plays for teams than for actually completing NFL passes.
The Wall Street Journal took a deep-dive into Romo’s ability to predict plays, which made him a strong broadcaster almost instantly.
“In some ways, it’s like math,” Romo says.
“People think Tony’s a fortune teller, but this isn’t guesswork and this isn’t psychic ability,” said Jim Nantz, his partner in the booth. “He’s not getting some sort of message from the gods. He’s seeing what Brady saw.”
Since 2017, Romo has worked with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz, whom he considers a mentor.
The deal with CBS Sports is Tony Romo’s first post-career, lucrative payday.
