About Flintstone House in Ransom Canyon, Texas

According to Lubbock Online, when Mark Lawson began making plans for building a house in Ransom Canyon, he had only one goal in mind – he wanted it to be different.

“I yearned to go home to something different,” Lawson said. “I asked Robert Bruno (designer of the metal house) if he would design a house for me. He said no. He was busy with his projects and stuff. I said, ‘Well, I bought the lot right across the street.’ What I meant was he didn’t have to go far to oversee the project. Because off that move, because of buying the land before I really knew what I was going to do with it, that actually took several years to figure out.”

The Snail House is located not far from the Steel House yet they feel very different in design.

The glossy vibrant jagged mosaic on parts of the exterior provide contrast to the overall organic swirling lines throughout the stone structure.

These design elements continue on to the landscaping in part due to a stone separation that creates a terrace-like effect across the yard.

Natural light is very much a part of the design and is highlighted by several elements from the small peek-a-boo windows in place of random stones in the exterior to the almost turret like peak at the center which is capped off with a window.

Collectively the elements of the Snail House reveal a sense of whimsy or playfulness.

It almost reminds me of a cross between something out of an episode of the Smurfs and the Flintstones
