We will update this breaking story as we get more information.

Texas Hair Salons, Barbershops, Nail Salons, Tanning Booths Can Reopen May 8

RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES: READ GOVERNOR’S STRIKE FORCE / CHECK LIST TO REOPEN TEXAS

Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that hair salons, barbershops, nail and tanning salons can all reopen at reduced capacity starting this Friday.

Guidelines surrounding the reopening of these businesses include one customer per stylist, and people can only wait inside a salon if they maintain proper social distancing protocol.

Appointment scheduling is highly encouraged to avoid walk-ins and congregrating which would defeat the purpose to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Both stylists and customers are encouraged to wear face masks during this critical time.

“This allows these types of businesses to open up, but it doesn’t require them to do so,” Abbott said. “Every owner of every salon should use their own best judgement.”

The governor’s office said the number of daily confirmed cases is expected to increase as the state ramps up testing to nearly 30,000 tests per day.

Nationwide 70,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19, which is more than how many Americans died during the entire 16 years of the Vietnam War. The death toll from coronavirus is expected to climb over 130,000 Americans by the end of August 2020.

HAIR SALON, NAIL SALON, BARBERSHOPS, TANNING SALON – REOPEN TEXAS RULES:

Hair salons, barbershops, hail salons, and tanning salons may reopen May 8 in Texas if they follow these basic guidelines:

  • One customer per stylist
  • Customers are encouraged to make an appointment
  • Salons are discouraged from accepting walk-ins
  • People can wait inside only if they follow social distancing guidelines, otherwise they must wait inside their cars
  • Stylists and customers are both encouraged to wear face masks
  • Not a requirement to reopen

Texas Gyms And Exercise Facilities To Reopen May 18

Gyms and exercise facilities will be allowed to reopen May 18 at a reduced capacity of 25%.

All equipment must be disinfected after each use and customers must use gloves and maintiain six-feet of social distancing.

Showers and locker rooms will remained closed so be prepared to drive home stinky, and please for the love of all things wear deoderant.

Personal equipment people bring into gyms, like yoga mats, must be disinfected before and after each use. I’m guessing goat yoga is out for a bit y’all.

GYMS, EXERCISE FACILITATES – REOPEN TEXAS GUIDELINES

Gyms and exercise facilities may reopen on May 18 if they follow these basic guidelines:

  • Reduced capacity of 25%
  • No capacity for outdoor gyms; social distancing must be maintained
  • All equipment must be disinfected after each use
  • Customers must use gloves
  • Customers must maintain 6 feet social distancing
  • Shower and locker rooms to remain CLOSED
  • Personal equipment, like yoga mats, must be disinfected before and after use

When Are Bars Reopening In Texas?

What’s on the mind of bar owners across the state of Texas is when they can actually reopen, but Abbott doesn’t have an answer to that question yet. Instead, he is encouraging feedback from bar owners.

“We are still working on safe ways to establish safe distancing at bars,” Abbott said.

Weddings, Outdoor Seating – Reopen Texas Clarifications Made Tuesday

Governor Abbott clarified that the 25 percent capacity limits do not apply to outdoor seating at restaurants, but the social distancing rules of six feet do.

Abbott also answered questions about rules surrounding weddings. He clarified that weddings are part of religious services, and Texans should abide by the same rules for funerals, burials, and memorials.

So in other words, yes, weddings can take place but they need to have limited seating arrangmeents, like alternativing rows. Abbott said health officials advise at-risk people to watch remotely for extra safety.

Wedding receptions should follow the same rules of capacity as restaurants.

One final word–Governor Abbott also said swimming pools may reopen May 8 in his announcement.
