How To Teach Kids To Wash Their Hands
Ingredients for Hand Washing Experiment
- Lotion
- Pencil and Paper
- Pepper
Instructions For Hand Washing Experiment
Step One: Mix pepper and lotion into a bowl, try to add as much pepper as possible so there is a stark contrast and it is clearly visible
Step Two: Have your little trace their hands on a piece of paper. Let them hypothesize what germs look like on their hands and get creative by drawing!
Step Three: Have your kiddo place the pepper mix all over their hands. Rub it well. Let them touch surfaces, shake hands with you, touch doorknobs, and maybe even their toys! Talk about what is happening with the “germs” on their hands.
Step Four: Have your child practice good hand washing! Let them wash their hands under the sink for at least 20 seconds. Reciting the ABC’s during hand washing is a great way to make sure kids don’t rush!
Step Five: Go through and sanitize/clean every surface they’ve touched. Talk about how important it is to have good hygiene to prevent the spread of germs! What happens to the “germs” after you clean up?
