I love taking my kids to the State Fair of Texas, but what I don’t like is the inevitable hole that gets burned in my wallet each year. Regular general admission prices can cost a family over $50 and that’s before they even get to bite into a corny dog or chew on a turkey leg.

So, if you’re wondering how to stretch those State Fair dollars further, keep reading to find out How to Get ALL the Discounts On State Fair of Texas Tickets This Year…

Hope you’re wearing your stretchy pants this year, because here’s 10 Crazy Foods You Need to Try at the State Fair of Texas.

state fair of texas tickets

For my family of five, it would normally cost us $74 to just get inside the entrance gates…and to most families that’s a small fortune just to walk around in the Dallas heat and say howdy to Big Tex. If you feel the same way, then you’ll love our list of ways to save money on tickets at the fair. Here’s How to Get ALL the Discounts on State Fair of Texas Tickets This Year:

How to Get All the Discounts On State Fair of Texas Tickets in 2025

Here’s all the ways to keep more cash in your pocket this year at the State Fair of Texas (so you can spend it on Midway games and fried food, of course).

State Fair Opening Day Discounts

Fair-goers can get tickets for $9 on opening day, Sept. 27. All you have to do is bring a 20-ounce bottle of Dasani water or a 20-ounce Coca-Cola product to the gate. Donations benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

Opening day is also the the fair’s Military Appreciation Day, which means free admission for all active and retired military personnel, including veterans. Bring a military ID as well as military spouse ID to gain free access to the event. Military Appreciation Day also covers children under age 18 who come with a qualifying active or retired military attendee.

First Responders Day

On Oct. 11, the fair is hosting First Responders Day. Active and retired public law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics receive free admission, as well as up to three of their family members. This deal requires eligible personnel bring a valid badge or ID from their department or organization.

State Fair Weekday Discounts

Hit the State Fair for half-price any day after 5 pm by bringing an empty Dr Pepper can to the gate.

Select Weekday Discounts

Visit the State Fair of Texas on these select weekdays for additional discounts:

Tuesdays: $9 entry fee when you bring an empty Dr Pepper can; Midway rides are discounted this day
Wednesdays: $4 entry fee when you bring four canned food items, which will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank
Thursdays: $9 entry fee when you bring an empty 20-ounce bottle of any Coca-Cola product; select food items are also discounted this day through the fair’s Thrifty Thursday program.

Senior Discounts at the State Fair of Texas

Every Thursday throughout the fair, seniors at least 60 years old get in for FREE.

Discounted Ride Tickets on Tuesdays at the Texas State Fair

Discounts extend to the Midway for Thrilling Tuesdays, with most rides offered at a reduced price on Tuesdays.

Buy State Fair of Texas Tickets Online

Buy your tickets on BigTex.com and save $1.50 per ticket on general admission tickets any day of the week. Remember, kids 2 and under are always free.

Purchase your tickets using the DART GoPass app and save $2 on fair tickets for any day of the week. These tickets will be paperless and scanned from your phone at the gate. With this discount, general admission tickets cost $16 and child/senior tickets cost $12.

Discount Coupons for State Fair of Texas Tickets

Buy a meal at McDonald’s and receive a state fair coupon. You will find it either lining your tray or stuffed in your to-go bag. Coupons are good for $5 off GA tickets or half-off a kid’s ticket with the purchase of one regularly-priced admission. Coupons can be redeemed any day of the fair.

Purchase in advance at your local Kroger and get general admission tickets for only $16.50 or season passes for $39.95. They may be purchased at the check-out counter or service desk from September 2, 2019 to October 20, 2019.
