I Binge-Watched Tiger King On Netflix So You Don’t Have To: Here’s What I Learned

Tiger King on Netflix is the wildest story you’ll never believe…and yet somehow it’s all true. Born Joseph Allen Schreibvogel (later legally changed to Maldonado-Passage), Joe Exotic would be thrilled to know he has brought America together while we’re stuck at home under the threat of the global pandemic coronavirus.

Crazier than a soup sandwich, Tiger King is a story of what happens when you mix up tigers, money, jealousy, and revenge…and it’s nuttier than a squirrel turd. Which is why I Watched Tiger King So You Don’t Have To. Here’s What I Learned…

Here’s 10 Moments That Restored Our Faith in Humanity.

Netflix | Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

10 Things About Tiger King On Netflix You Could Totally Live Without Knowing

1. Tiger King is Literally the Only Thing Crazier Than Our Lives Right Now

The tiger cannot be tamed in these folks.

2. Joe Exotic Is From The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Used with permission

His yearbook photo from J. Earl Selz High School in Pilot Point prove it. Joseph Allen Schriebvogel (Maldonado-Passage), aka Exotic Joe, was class of 1982. After graduating, he owned a pet store in Arlington with his brother, Garold, in 1986. He even once talked his way into becoming the police chief of Eastvale, which was later annexed with The Colony in the late 1980’s. He met his first husband at Round-up Saloon in Dallas where he worked as a security guard. They then moved into a trailer park in Arlington, and shortly thereafter is when he got into lions, tigers, and ligers. According to rumors, he hung out with his tigers at Trader’s Village in Arlington, and, according to him, he even got kicked out of Valley View Mall because of complaints about his tiger show.

3. A Tiger Might Have (Probably) Ate A Guy

There’s a rich guy that’s been missing since 1997. He was married to Carole Baskin at the time of his disappearance. The rumor is that Carole fed him to a tiger. No one can prove it and Carole denies it.

4. Keep Your Friends Close And Your Enemies Closer

A self-proclaimed PETA hater, Joe Exotic is now trying to take down his competition from federal prison using who other than…PETA. In 2019, he was convicted on 17 charges of federal animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire (he tried to have Carole Baskin, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue, killed). He’s serving 22 years. Basically, don’t eff with this redneck.

Update: Joe Exotic is now suing the United States government for $94 million and is asking for a presidential pardon. The Tiger King wants out of his cage. The lawsuit was recently filed in a federal court in Oklahoma.

5. If A Lisa Frank Notebook Was A Person…

Just when you think the Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin story can’t get any more ridiculous, IT DOES. This is absurd on maximum overdrive.

6. Joe Exotic Should’ve Quit Tigery and Gone Country Instead

Unexpectedly (just like everything else in this story), Joe Exotic actually had good vocals. Plus, his life had all the elements of a great country song(s) anyway. But then we wouldn’t have this comedic relief while we’re stuck at home trying to avoid coronavirus would we?

7. Tiger Collectors Make Great Cult Leaders

Choose your cult leader wisely. Your life depends on it.

Picked Just For You:  These 4 Festive Holiday Recipes Will Help You Celebrate The Season

8. You Can Get Away With Polygamy In Oklahoma

Today, no wedding can ever be called normal, and that pretty sums up the day Travis, John, and Joe got married in Oklahoma. These guys put the 3 in three ring circus.

9. The Mullet-Wearing Redneck Joe Exotic Ran For President Of The U.S. AND Governor Of Oklahoma

Which brings up another point. Apparently, raising tigers is big business because running in political races takes some serious cash.

MAKE AMERICA EXOTIC AGAIN.

10. More Tigers Live In The United States Than In The Actual Wild

Know what else is crazy? The fact that more tigers live in American backyards than in the actual wild. Just under 4,000 tigers live in the wild, mostly in Southeast Asia, and it is estimated that anywhere between 5,000-10,000 tigers are being raised in captivity in the United States. You’ll find this out in the end credits of the documentary series. If I had to watch an obnoxious, flamboyant, polyamorous, gun-toting redneck straight out of Lisa Frank notebook that caused me to lose a few brain cells to be made aware of this fact–well, then it was totally worth it.

10 Things About Tiger King On Netflix You Could Totally Live Without Knowing

Nuttier than a squirrel turd, Tiger King on Netflix is the craziest story you never heard. Which is why I binge-watched it so you don’t have to.
