Looking for family-friendly outdoor activities near DFW? Dallas Fort Worth has a plethora of zoos, nature parks, and botanical gardens to choose from for a day or weekend out with family. Plus, you can rest assured that your safety and health will be of the upmost importance during your visit to these places. Keep reading for a list of zoos, botanical gardens, and nature parks in DFW reopening soon.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new normal that includes measures to benefit our health and safety. Each place you visit will have different protocols in place, and it’s important to remember that we’re all in this together–and that means looking out for each other’s (and the animals’) health.

The Fort Worth Zoo is a popular family attraction and date destination. You’ll love exploring the zoo and seeing all the animals starting May 29 when it REOPENS! Here’s what you need to know during the reopening of the Fort Worth Zoo:

  • Reservations required for all members and guests
  • Tickets can ONLY be purchased online, 3 days in advance.
  • You must select a designated time slot.
  • Membership cards and timed tickets will be checked on entry.
  • Reservations can be printed so barcodes can be scanned at the turnstiles, or barcodes can be accessed on mobile devices for scanning. You can access your reservations at any time by clicking the “View your tickets” link on your confirmation email.
  • Guest & Member Services will be operating at a limited capacity to assist with membership and ticketing issues only. All reservations will need to be done online prior to your visit. No tickets will be sold at the Zoo.
  • There will be no re-entry. Please ensure that you have everything with you before entering the Zoo.

Dallas Zoo is a 106-acre zoo located 3 miles south of downtown Dallas, Texas, in Marsalis Park. Established in 1888, it is the oldest and largest zoological park in Texas and is managed by the non-profit Dallas Zoological Society. It is home to over 2,000 animals representing 406 species.

For the health and safety of our staff, guests, and animals, we have made significant changes to the ticketing and entry process, as well as our daily operations.

  • All guests, including Dallas Zoo Members, must now reserve tickets and parking online prior to visiting.
  • You will also be prompted to choose an entry time for your visit.
  • Follow new traffic flows and pathways throughout the Zoo to allow for social distancing.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Have you been looking for a change of pace during these trying times? Crowded trails and your neighborhood might be starting to get boring for your kiddos, right? Here’s all you need to know about the Dallas Arboretum reopening to the public June 1, and how to stay safe when you go!

  • Pre-purchase General admission tickets and parking online a week prior to your desired date, and this includes members.
  • Visits must be limited to 4 hour windows. You cannot arrive early, and are required to wait in your car if you do arrive before your instructed time.
  • Wristbands will indicate your dedicated visit window and end time.
  • Covering your face is recommended outdoors and required in any enclosed spaces.
  • Groups must be of 5 or less. Keep 6 feet between yourself and any other groups to maintain social distancing.
  • Installation of a one way, one mile pathway for visitors.

Fort Worth Botanic And Japanese Garden is gradually re-opening to the public, and they are looking forward to welcoming you back! Fort Worth Botanic Garden will open with capped numbers and timed tickets on Monday, June 1.

Here’s how the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is reopening safely:

  • Working with municipalities and the state, we are complying with all guidelines and requirements related to COVID-19.
  • BUT it is only with your cooperation as a visitor that we can succeed in this re-opening. Please follow the procedures outlined here.
  • You must purchase a ticket or make a member reservation online for a specific date and time to visit. Tickets will not be available onsite.
  • Visitation will be capped. Entry will be timed in 60-minute blocks. Please arrive within 15 minutes of your selected time.
  • Access to buildings will be limited to restrooms only.
  • Visitors over the age of 2 are strongly encouraged to wear a protective face covering
  • Please practice social distancing – staying at least six feet away from visitors not within your party.
  • Visitors will select from two different entry points at time of ticket purchase.
  • Outdoor/Indoor drinking fountains will not be accessible, concessions will be set up throughout the garden for refreshments.
  • The Trellis Gift shop (located inside the Garden Center) will be opened and limited to 5 guests at a time.
  • The Treasure Tree Gift shop (located in the Japanese Garden) will be closed until phase 2 of our re-opening plan.
  • The Rock Springs Café will be closed until phase 2 of our re-opening plan, however, they will have pop-up stations throughout the garden.

These two tiny urban gardens are found in Downtown Dallas and are a shaded respite on sunny days. You will find plants, grasses, shaped shrubs, sculptures, and FREE WIFI at the Main Street and Belo Gardens! Admission is free year round.

Belo Garden Park is a 1.7-acre public park located in downtown Dallas, Texas, United States. The park is located between Main and Commerce, east of Griffin in the Main Street District.

Dragon Park will make you feel like you’ve entered a hidden, secret world in Dallas. Actually on private property, Dragon Park is open to visitors year round, but please respect the garden and any rules the owners may enact so we can all continue to enjoy this park.
